The Quest ... Discovering Insulin was No Cakewalk
Banting and Macleod meet on November 7, 1920
The Quest is a short film is a re-enactment of the critical year in Dr. Frederick Banting’s life when he discovered insulin for the treatment of diabetes at the University of Toronto. It depicts the odds against which he and his assistant, Charles Best, worked; the skepticism of other doctors and the final victory that gave thousands of people with diabetes hope for a healthier life.
While in Toronto for a friend’s wedding, Banting is able to secure a meeting with the head of physiology at the University of Toronto, Dr. John J. R. Macleod, to speak about his pancreatic extract idea.

He later meets Charles Best and begins the unpaid research over the summer.
Not great for the dogs, either.
It led to perhaps the most important modern medical discovery—INSULIN!
